🌄 Scenic Drives
1. Newfound Gap Road (US-441)
- Runs between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC.
- Crosses the heart of the park with overlooks, picnic spots, and trailheads.
- Highlights: Newfound Gap overlook, Clingmans Dome road (spur), Chimney Tops trailhead.
2. Cades Cove Loop
- An 11-mile, one-way loop through a valley surrounded by mountains.
- Great for spotting deer, bears, and historic cabins.
- Go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and see wildlife.
3. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
- A short scenic loop near Gatlinburg.
- Features old homesteads, rushing streams, and trailheads for Rainbow Falls and Grotto Falls.
4. Foothills Parkway
- Offers sweeping views of the Smokies without the crowds.
- Two main sections: Chilhowee to Walland, and Wears Valley to Cosby.
- Especially gorgeous at sunrise or sunset.
5. Blue Ridge Parkway (starts near Cherokee, NC)
- Connects the Smokies to Shenandoah National Park.
- Endless overlooks, tunnels, and hiking pull-offs.
🕓 Best Times to Drive
- Fall (late Sept–early Nov): Stunning leaf color.
- Spring: Blooming wildflowers and fewer crowds.
- Summer: Lush greens, but expect more traffic.
- Winter: Peaceful and often snowy at high elevations (check for road closures).

- Check NPS Smokies Road Closures before you go — some roads (like Clingmans Dome Road) close seasonally.
- Gas up before entering — there are no gas stations inside the park.
- Bring snacks, water, and a paper map; cell service is limited.
- Pull off safely for photos and wildlife viewing.
